KL: HOW DID YOU GET STARTED OUT IN THE MAKEUP INDUSTRY?
EF: I've had a passion for makeup since I was a kid and once I realized I could actually live out my passion as a career I moved from New York to LA and went to Cinema Makeup School. I started out working on LA Fashion Week for indie designers and really enjoyed the process of creating for a show. The first time I department headed a movie and got to create some amazing characters I knew that was the path I wanted to take.
KL: HOW DO YOU GET INSPIRATION FOR YOUR MAKEUP LOOKS?
EF: When I do red carpet makeup I really like to collaborate with everyone on the team and pull inspiration from even the smallest details. The green stems from a floral gown or gold hair accessories with a small ruby give me inspiration for a smokey green liner or a glossy red lip. Working in film & tv is a massive collaboration to create the characters looks. After the initial script and meetings with the director & producers, hair team and even the actors, I design a look that will complete the character they are portraying without overwhelming or taking away from their performance. I find inspiration in other films and a lot of the backstory or researching the actors really helps me to hone in on a look.
KL: ANY ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE TO SOMEONE JUST STARTING OUT IN THE INDUSTRY?
EF: Work hard, take every job you can (paid or not), hustle, always be nice, be on time (and by on time I mean early), be prepared and do your research for every job you do.
KL: WHAT IS THE MOST MEMORABLE JOB YOU'VE EVER DONE?
EF: This is a hard one. I love all the jobs I’ve done for different reasons. Some jobs are extremely hard and test you in the moment, but when you look back it makes you realize how much you’ve learned and grown as an artist. You get to be surrounded by your friends and have an amazing time creating art.
KL: CAN YOU GIVE US SOME LASH TIPS AND BEST WAYS TO APPLY FALSE EYELASHES?
EF: I love individuals! I love the look of them and being able to create your desired look and shape, the Kasha lash tool is actually my new favorite way to apply lashes. My OG trick is to get a silicone sculpting tool (available at any art store, it's basically a brush handle with a soft silicone tapered end), and once the strip or individuals are in place if you need to move it or alter it in any way you can use the soft edge of the sculpting tool to push the lash into place or maneuver it. It allows you to get right up to the lash line without the fear of poking or hurting your client.
KL: WHICH KASHA STYLES DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST AND WHY?
EF: The Kasha individuals are my absolute favorite. I love that they come in three different sizes AND the flare pack. You can literally create any style of lash with them. The ends are so seamless and sit beautifully on the eye.
